Interval training is known to burn fat more effectively than long cardio sessions. A common interval workout can be done using a treadmill. Craig Ballantyne (author of Turbulence Training) released a video showing examples of performing intervals using a treadmill. I try to do intervals when I run on a treadmill just to change it up as well as challenging myself.
Besides that, I know it is probably more effective than just running at the same pace for 30 minutes. Check out the video below.
