Jump Rope Basics
There are a few things to remember for basic jump roping:
- Purchase a good jump rope (most are between $4.00 – $6.00)
- Choose a shock absorbent surface to jump on (avoid concrete)
- Wear good shoes (tennis shoes, cross-trainers)
- Jump on the balls of your feet 1 – 2 inches off the ground
- Keep your elbows close to your sides and turn the rope with your wrists & forearms
Jump Rope Workout Routines
There are several ways that you can jump rope. For beginners, one of the easiest ways would be to perform the “single jump” which is just jumping rope with your feet together, one jump per turn.
For the more advanced workout, you can develop speed by performing full-speed intervals. You spin the rope as fast as you can for 60 seconds and resting 20 – 30 seconds in between.
Whichever way you choose to jump rope, it remains one of the most inexpensive and fun ways to workout. You can do it almost anywhere and is great when you’re traveling. Just pack the rope with the rest of your luggage and you have an instant workout wherever you go.
