This post will be short but hopefully useful for those of you healthy eaters who may be struggling with your sweet tooth. I’m a huge chocolate fan. Chocolate cake, chocolate ice cream, chocolate bars, chocolate chip cookies – if it has chocolate, I’d probably like it. I’m slowly finding cool, healthier alternatives to satisfy my desires for cake, cookies, and ice cream. Maybe you are in the same boat and have found yourself giving in to your favorite treats more often than you should.
The problem with cake, cookies, and ice cream is that they contain a lot of carbs. The carbohydrates from processed food is what contributes to weight gain. I don’t avoid these treats completely but I save them for one day a week when I allow myself a treat. If I continued to eat them all week the way I did in the past, I would be back where I was before – never losing excess weight.
Below are some alternatives that I use to keep myself in check until my free day rolls around.
Avocado Pudding – I can’t remember how I came across this recipe but it is my goto chocolate pudding alternative. All that is required is one avocado, one banana, 3 tbsp of cocoa powder, and 1 tsp of honey. Blend it all together in a food processor and you have delicious instant pudding. You can view the recipe and instructions here: Avocado Pudding. It is surprisingly delicious and has the same consistency as the chocolate pudding you’re probably used to eating.
Shakeology – It’s no secret that I love, love, love this product. It is so versatile and I drink it every day. Here are just some of the things you can do with it:
- Chocolate milkshake
- Chocolate pie
- Chocolate ice cream
- Chocolate cookies
- Iced coffee alternative
- Frappacino alternative
You can look up Shakeology recipes online to make those specific items listed. However, I am totally fine with it as a milkshake. Blend it with almond milk and enough ice and that is what you’ll end up with. I drink it as my daily multivitamin and as a nutritional supplement. 140 calories per serving and 17 grams of carbs. No refined sugar, no artificial sweeteners, gluten free, and no caffeine. It’s awesome! You can learn more about it by clicking here.
Paleo Treats – This company specializes in paleo desserts. They currently have two products: Cacao Now and Mac Attack. We’ve tried the Mac Attack and it was delicious. They are made from organic ingredients and are sure to satisfy any chocolate lover’s dessert craving. You can learn more about the company and products at: Paleo Treats.
Those are my favorites so far. I’ll share more as I come across them. What are your dessert alternatives when you need to satisfy your sweet tooth?
