When it pertains to a loved one dealing with an addiction problem, it can be a challenge for families to know which facility to choose. And, the fees and programs vary in Ontario, depending on whether it is run by government or privately owned, means that families are not sure where to take their loved ones, or how the fees are going to add up during their treatment.
Insurance covered –
When it comes to paying for rehab treatment, government run facilities are typically covered by your insurer as a Canadian resident. These are classified as in and outpatient facilities, and offer a variety of treatment options depending on the level and severity of the addiction which is to be treated. Camh.ca is a good place to go if you wish to learn about which facilities are government run, and are going to be covered by your insurer, if you wish to have financial assistance to pay for the addiction treatment.
Privately owned facilities –
Another option to consider when you are deciding where to go for addiction and rehab, is to go to privately run facilities. In these cases, you are typically going to pay out of pocket expenses in order to receive the addiction help and guidance you require (or a loved one needs) in order to get past the addiction you are suffering through.
In order to qualify and be accepted into an OHIP facility (which are government run facilities) there are a few factors which need to be accounted for prior to being accepted. Some of these factors include:
– Patients must be sober.
– Once patients are sober, they must go to a meeting with a rehab counselor to discuss treatment plans.
– Counselors will: refer patients to an outpatient treatment, or put patients on a waiting list (depending on how many patients are in front of them).
– Patients must remain sober while on a wait list. Keep in mind this could be weeks (or months) so try to engage in programs, do community service, or take on other tasks to stay sober while you are waiting for an opening.
Lastly, upon being accepted, patients will be placed in the intensified rehab facility, and will be put under 100% supervision while they go through their rehab and detox treatment to get clean.
Depending on which OHIP facility you are placed in, and what type of addiction treatment you require, duration and type of treatment will vary for each individual. Further, there are some facilities which are specifically targeted to teen patients. So,if it is a younger individual that needs help, they are going to be placed in a facility which is going to provide direct guidance for their rehab needs.
Due to the nature of addiction and cost of treatment, government funded programs are a good alternative for families who want to help their loved ones get clean. These are a few things to k now prior to applying for treatment, to ensure you are accepted, and to ensure you receive assistance from your insurer, to offset costs of treatment.
