You On a Diet
If you happened to catch Oprah last Thursday, you were lucky enough to watch Dr. Mehmet Oz school the audience and tv viewers about losing weight. He and Dr. Roizen have written a new book called You: On a Diet: The Owners Manual for Waist Management (Book and DVD). If you’re not familiar with the doctors, they are also the authors of one of my favorite books, YOU: The Owner’s Manual: An Insider’s Guide to the Body that Will Make You Healthier and Younger.
On the show, Dr. Oz discusses the importance of having a small waistline. As I recall, he said 34 1/2 inches or under for women and 35 inches or under for men. I could be off on the numbers but the overall point was that instead of focusing on the numbers on the scale, look at the area around your waist. Having a large waistline can lead to health issues (heart disease, diabetes, etc.)
His explanation was enlightening and I definitely want to read the book. This is the type of information I think people can use to make permanent lifestyle changes. Most diet books are gimmicky but if people know the reasons for making lifestyle changes for their health, the more likely the changes will stick.
