Workout Motivation Tips

Do you ever experience a major loss of motivation when it comes to working out? If not, you probably will sometime in your life. I went through a period of no motivation (couch potato days) to high motivation (working out everyday.) Now I am on more of a study schedule in which I do my best to exercise everyday even if it's not in the gym. But believe me, there are times when I go through periods when I don't want to exercise at all. My motivation level is low. So how do you get it back? Here are some motivational tips that may help:

Just show up - Whatever your workout routine consists of, just show up. Whether it is at a gym or pulling out the bicycle for a ride, just show up and sometimes that is enough to trigger the motivation you need to begin your workout.

Remember your goals - Are you trying to tone up or lose your love handles? Remember what it is you are working towards. Write out your goals if you have to. Make a promise to yourself to meet your goals and let that be part of your motivation.

Go ahead, take a break - Sometimes we are actually burned out with exercising. If you feel like you need a break, take one. Take a week off if you need to until you actually feel like you want to exercise. We all need a break once in awhile.

Do something different - Changing up your routine could spark more motivation. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new like roller blading or indoor rock climbing. You never know what you may end up enjoying and you may pick up a new hobby while staying fit at the same time.

Motivational movie/sport event/magazine - A lot of times, simply reading an article in my Runner's World magazine is enough to get me in the mood to workout. Also watching shows on FitTV often motivates me as well.

Hopefully some of these tips may work for you when you are feeling unmotivated. If you have tips of your own, feel free to leave them in the comments. The more the better!
