Why You Should Start a Fitness Blog

I just realized that last month marked the 3 year anniversary of this fitness blog. When I started this blog I didn't know how long it would last but I'm so glad that I stuck with it because it has helped me out in so many ways. This blog started as a way for me to learn more about health and fitness. It served as my way of staying motivated as well as being accountable for my fitness.

Along the way I have interviewed some great fitness professionals and made new friends. I've also received free products just for reviewing them on here and I started up my own fitness business. Not only that, I have continued to work out the entire time and have helped to motivate friends and family to exercise as well.

I feel that if this blog has helped anyone get off of the couch, that is the best reward. If you are on a journey of improving your health and fitness, I highly recommend starting a blog of your own. The benefits are many:

  • It helps to keep you accountable to yourself and your readers.
  • You can document your progress much easier.
  • It’s fun and you connect with others who are doing the same.
  • It’s a great way to cope with the ups and downs.
  • It can be lucrative (promote products, run ads, etc.)
  • Perks – many companies will send you free stuff to review.

Getting a blog up is free and easy (unless you want something totally unique.) I recommend the two places below to get started:

Wordpress.com
Blogger.com

Both will have you up and running within minutes.

I totally agree with everything you mentioned in the post. I also started a fitness blog as a means to motivate myself about staying fit. I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made.

Great post. I have been running a fitness blog for about a year now. I am still trying to get that free stuff to review though! Any tips or suggestions on how to go about that?

@Ab Rocket – That is great to hear!

@Tyson – It happened over time for me. People began contacting me I guess because they find my posts in the search engines. However, I’m sure you can contact certain companies and ask to review a product. If anything, just keep marketing your blog (guest posts, twitter, facebook, etc.)

I have always enjoyed internet communities and how they can inspire people. If you get a big enough following you believe anything is possible.

It also makes you part of a team, you are more dedicated because your readers and followers want you to succeed which can be a beautiful thing.

Since the infancy of the Internet, a lot of people have been finding easier to get any information on it, including fitness. There are millions websites related to fitness those we may explore as long as we want. I think we need to say thanks a lot to those who providing such information and all at once we should be proud because we have become the owner of a website to help other people.

I came across your blog and since I am wanting to improve my fitness, I am thinking of creating a fitness blog now to help me stay motivated, along with getting ideas on different fitness activities to try.

This is awesome. Your reason for creating this blog is my reason for creating http://fitnessandhealthbook.com. I can learn and share what I learn through this sort of forum. Keep it up.

Funny you should say that…I just started a weight loss blog 4 days ago to keep me accountable!
I have a few friends following it (and would love more!) and am finding great inspiration through reading their comments!
Just knowing people will be checking on me keeps me on track.
After only 4 days my blog is not very exciting, but I have definitely learnt some things about myself by just documenting them (like which supplements seem to work, what time of the day I feel most hungry/stressed/tired etc).
I’m also trying to find others doing the same thing…although I want to find other people who have just started…not the blogs with a million followers and have had a weight loss blog for 3 years., but the ones who have just started, maybe because of reading your page, so we can support each other.
If anyone is interested, my blog is

Good luck to other fellow weight loss bloggers :)

Funny that you put it this way. I basically started mine for the purpose of keeping myself accountable. Right on target!

You should start a fitness blog only if you know what your doing or you have been successful. Good luck.

Excellent blog to read :)

I started one myself as a motivation to actually keep at my routine, I bought some Dumbbells a bench and a treadmill for the spare room :)

It’s always motivational to read other people’s blogs too, keep it up :)

I agree! I write for a fitness magazine and it’s not only an amazing feeling to think that you are helping to motivate people, but it also helps to stay motivated because you have a responsibility to set the example

I agree. I’ve been training and exercising for years. But since starting, i can
1) Help others with real knowledge from real experience
2) Know that my insider tips will help at least 1 person out there
3) Learn new things along the way
4) Stay motivated!!!

I started my wellness blog for the same reason and I hope that my journey will be fulfilling as yours. Doing this has opened up numerous channels of information and valuable knowledge for me.

One other thing I would add to your list is that it looks quite good on your CV if you can say you run your own blog/website, have a newsletter, have your own digital products etc.

I agree, and actually I have start it a few month ago but to lazy to write and update daily. Thanks for your advice I’ll do it start by now.
