Why Can’t You Lose Stubborn Belly Fat?

Have you been trying forever to lose stubborn belly fat around your mid-section? I am right there with you, which is why I did some research to see what can be done to decrease the spare tire, pot belly, beer belly, or however you refer to it!

First off, let’s get the biggest misconception out of the way. You cannot spot reduce the belly fat. You can do crunches until the cows come home and still have belly fat. The reason is because there is no such thing as spot reducing your abdominal area. Your six-pack may be there but it is hidden by a layer of fat. The key to getting them to show involves 3 key methods to burning fat:

1. Your diet
2. Cardio
3. Strength training

Let’s begin with diet. Most people are defeating themselves if they are working out, yet continue to take in large amounts of calories and fat in their diet. If you are not sure what to eat or how many calories to take in, get help from a nutritionist or your doctor. They can get you on a nutrition program suited best for you and one that you can maintain.

Second, adding cardio into your workouts will help burn the calories and fat. Cardio includes running, swimming, aerobics, etc. Many people I know don’t like cardio exercises. If you fall into this category, try various things until you find something you enjoy. Even kids are losing weight with video games such as DDR (Dance Dance Revolution.) Try different activities and eventually, you’ll find one you can stick with.

Third, don’t leave out strength training. Working out your larger muscle groups increases your metabolism. This is important as you want to burn calories even after a good workout. You also want to build lean muscle mass.

Also take into consideration how much belly fat you have to lose and the skin surrounding the area. If you are extremely overweight, you may experience loose skin after significant fat loss. Loose skin can be surgically removed. Don’t let that hinder you from losing weight. If anything, you are still adding tremendous benefit to your health by losing weight.

Give yourself time and the proper guidance and you can achieve your goal of losing stubborn belly fat.
