Walking "not enough to get fit":
Lead researcher Dr Vicki Harber said: "Generally, low-intensity activity such as walking alone is not likely to give anybody marked health benefits compared to programmes that occasionally elevate the intensity."
I can understand this because unless you really get your heart rate up, your body is probably not going to reap the benefits of exercising. Walking is a great way to add activity to your life, however, it is probably important to walk at a slightly faster pace to begin improving your overall fitness levels. I run almost everyday and after a certain period of time, I attempt to improve on my levels of fitness. I used to run a pace of 4.8 mph on the treadmill and have slowly built my way up to 5.6 mph. That is about a 10 minute and 45 second pace according to the treadmill calculations. My goal is to someday build my speed up to about a 9 minute mile.
