Diets can be tough and dieting is one of the hardest things to do when it comes to getting in shape. I for one love to eat and reading about volumetrics sounds like it may be the type of diet plan that I could actually stick with for the long haul.
What is Volumetrics?
Volumetrics was created by nutritionist Barbara Rolls, PhD. The diet focuses on eating foods that help you feel full while still losing weight. The key is to find foods that you can eat a lot of that aren't full of calories.
What Types of Food Can You Eat?
Since the focus of the diet is to eat foods that are low in energy density (calories) you have to learn which foods are low-density and which are high-density.
Low-density foods would include items like:
- Vegetables
- Fruit
- Soup broth
- Fiber
- Lean protein
High-density foods include items like:
- Cookies
- Candy
- Chips
- Butter
- Oils
In my opinion, this diet makes a lot of sense. You end up eating foods that are good for you, and more of it, due to the lower amount of calories you're taking in compared to junk foods many people eat on a regular basis. Although, junk foods (candy, fats) aren't banned, it is recommended to eat them sparingly.
There is more to the diet such as learning how to calculate the energy density of foods as well as increasing your physical activity. Learn more about it below:
