    Understanding How Muscle Building Works

Maintaining and building lean muscle mass is important when it comes to overall fitness. There is a misconception that lifting weights often will grow your muscles faster. Muscle building does not work this way.

    How Growing Muscles Works

When you lift weights, you are essentially breaking down muscle tissue. Your body responds to this breakdown as a threat. In order to protect itself from another potential threat, your body adapts by increasing your muscle size. However, muscle growth can only occur properly during recovery time. This is why it isn’t wise to train your muscles day after day.

During this recovery time your muscles are being repaired and therefore increasing in size and strength.

How Often Should You Weight Train?

Since your muscles need adequate recovery time, you definitely want to avoid over training. Instead, it is better to train a muscle group 2 - 3 times per week (for no more than an hour per session) while allowing for proper rest in between workouts.

When you do weight train, focus on working your muscles to fatigue rather than doing as many reps as possible. Training too hard and too often can set back your progress. As you progress, you can begin to increase weight and/or the amount of reps you perform.

95% of people who start a muscle-building program will NEVER see any significant results! Learn how to avoid these fatal muscle-building pitfalls and finally achieve the ripped, rock-solid physique you deserve.
