Soda, soda pop, pop, soda water, whatever you choose to call it, it is evil in a can. I stopped drinking soda many months ago and do not regret it at all. I made the decision because although I didn't know all of the negative effects of it, I knew it just wasn't good for me. The sugar content alone was enough to turn me off to it.
I grew up drinking soda. It was always in the house and when it wasn't, I could go around the corner and buy a bottle. I never actually considered soda "evil" until I decided to quit. Before that time, it was always in my fridge and ordered with almost every meal I ate when dining out.
Some of the awful effects of soda include:
1. Osteoporosis
2. Dehydration
3. Diabetes
4. Obesity
5. Tooth Decay
Personally, I noticed when I consumed a lot of soda, I would suffer from constipation quite often. It still amazes me how much soda is consumed on a daily basis by some people. I was watching "Honey, We're Killing the Kids" on TLC the other night and the children in the episode drank a gallon of soda daily! Insane! I knew a guy several years ago who drank a 12-pack by himself on a daily basis.
I get the craving for a drink of soda every now and then but all I have to do is think of its damaging effects and the craving subsides. I must admit that it was the easiest thing to give up in terms of better nutrition. Below is a link to a great article that will help you break the soda habit if you are having trouble quitting.
