Stretching May Not Prevent Muscle Soreness

I have heard and read so much conflicting information about stretching. Some experts may say stretch before a workout, others may say the benefits are best after a workout - who really knows when is the best time to stretch? Now a recent study says that stretching may not even prevent muscle soreness. I also believed that one of the main benefits of stretching was to prevent sore muscles the next day. Apparently, it may not be the case at all according to the study:

Pre-exercise stretching reduced soreness one day after exercise by, on average, less than 0.5 on a 100-point scale. Post-exercise stretching reduced soreness a day later by 1 point.” Similar effects were evident between half a day and three days after exercise,” the researchers write. [Source: CBS News]

I think the stretching debate will continue to go on, however, I will continue to stretch because it makes me feel better and I want to help prevent injuries. I have decided that dynamic stretching before a workout works best for me while regular stretching exercises work best afterwards.
