Since upping my water intake to 64+ ounces a day, I realized how much I may have been dehydrated before and not even realized it. I would get headaches a lot more often and I was also drinking everything other than water like coffee, soda, and tea. I still love tea by the way but I'll save that for another post.
I did a little online research and found some information on staying hydrated when working out. A lot of the articles were consistent in the fact of drinking water at least 2 hours before your workout. Once you begin working out, it's important to drink at least 1/2 a cup during every 15 minutes of exercise. A great hydration method is using a Camelbak Flashflo. It's small, convenient, and great for running/walking.
I keep my nalgene bottle close at hand when I am working out at the gym. When I was in bootcamp, after every run, our drill seargents wouldn't release us until we drank a whole quart of water from our canteens. We then had to hold the canteens over our heads to prove they were empty. That was a lot of water to gulp down and believe me, I felt like puking it up right after. Staying hydrated during bootcamp was no joke. Looking back, I remember just how often they would remind us to drink water.
Even if you're not exercising everyday, remember to stay hydrated. After all, our bodies are made up of 70% water and our organs need water to perform their functions.
