Should You Eat Before Working Out?

by Eartha

Whether or not you should eat before a workout is another one of those questions that has multiple answers. Personally, I choose to eat something before I exercise because I've found that I have no energy at all during my workout.

After all - food is our body's fuel. This holds particularly true for me since I workout in the morning. That means my body needs energy after fasting during the night for 8 hours.

Below is a great article that outlines what to eat depending on what time of day you choose to exercise.

How To Eat For Maximum Performance

My favorite pre-workout meal is oatmeal with raisins. If you're a morning person, eating something light will usually do the job. After your workout it's good to eat a high-protein based meal to help your muscles during recovery.

I think it is important to eat lightly before a workout. As stated, food is energy. I also think it is important to hydrate properly before a workout. Also, I would not recommend eating or drinking in excess before a workout. Too close may cause cramping.
