One of the many perks that come with writing a fitness blog is the occasional opportunity of being sent cool fitness products to use and review. I had the opportunity to try out and use the Lumo Lift (thanks to The Grommet.) The Lumo Lift is a little tracking device that is used to monitor your posture as well as track the steps you walk or run throughout the day. You wear the tracking device right near your collar bone. It is held in place by a magnetic clip which comes in two styles: an actual clip or a square magnet as pictured below on the left:
The image on the right is of the charging station which is connected by a USB plug. I connect it right to my laptop while I’m working. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge. The iOS app that works with the Lumo Lift will let you know when your tracker needs charging.
When you first use the Lumo Lift, you should download the app (iPhone only as of this writing) and create an account. Once your account is created, you can sync your device to the app which connects via Bluetooth. After you are synced up, attach the device right near your collar bone using one of the magnetic clips.
The next step is to align the device by tapping on it twice. You’ll want to be in an upright position, with good posture. Don’t worry, you can realign anytime by getting into good posture and tapping twice. The device will vibrate three times to let you know you are aligned.
Now your posture and steps will begin tracking. The app also has a coaching feature. When you use the coaching session (the app will instruct you on how to set one up), your Lumo Lift will monitor your posture and vibrate each time you slouch. It is a gentle reminder to sit or stand up straight.
Office Workers Would Benefit from This Device
I am a web developer and in the past I have worked YEARS at a desk in a cubicle. Even now, I still sit at my home desk for hours at a time. Back in the cubicle days, I’d come home often with neck pain and lower back pain. Not only was it due to stress but also because I slouched at my desk more often than not.
I wish this product existed and I had access to it sooner. I feel it would have saved me from coming home with aches and pains from sitting at a desk all day. The vibrating reminder is enough for me to stop and fix my posture. I’m wearing it now as I write this post and it has vibrated several times. That goes to show just how often I slouch!
My Overall Impression
I like this product. It’s small and light which makes it easy to wear. You hardly notice it until it vibrates to remind you of your posture. I also like that it tracks your steps. There are other apps that do this, but it’s still a neat feature. Another bonus is that the app also connects with MyFitnessPal if you happen to use their app already.
Where You Can Get Your Lumo Lift
Keep in mind that as of this writing, the Lumo Lift app is only available for the iPhone and Windows desktop app. The Android app is currently in development. You can purchase the Lumo Lift online at:
