Resting Heart Rate

During my outdoor run with my stepdad last week, he mentioned that whenever he gets his yearly physicals, his doctor is always amazed at his resting heart rate. He said it was low and is the result of having good cardiovascular fitness.

I took my resting heart rate the other day and counted 82 beats in one minute. However, I’ve read that you should take your resting heart rate first thing in the morning 2 - 5 minutes after waking up. Most fit people will have low resting heart rates. I think this is especially true for people who run often.

The average resting heart rate is between 60 - 90 beats per minute. My new goal along with my previous goals is to get my resting heart rate to be lower. I’m averaging about three miles per day on the treadmill. I am amazed how far I’ve come with making small goals and achieving them. It’s all about baby steps!
