Proper Use of the Leg Press Machine

by Eartha

One machine that I rarely use in the gym is the leg press. It is often in use by others but the main reason I shy away from it is because I wasn't exactly sure about the proper way to use it. With that being said, I looked up videos on how to use one and found a really good explanation below.

All machines in the gym can cause injury if you don't know what you're doing but specific ones such as the leg press machine can also cause lower back injuries if used improperly. Of course, watching a video helps but if you are having doubts, ask a personal trainer to go over it quickly with you.

Great video. I too must admit that I usually reject the leg press machine and other leg exercises too. This is not because I am unsure of the correct technique. I just never seem to find the time to do legs. Legs are definitely something I need to do start incorporating more into my future workouts.

I actually LIKE the leg press. I like feeling my quads working, makes me feel strong. I like that it works the bum too. :)
However, I don’t use particularly heavy weights either!

I’m not too keen on the leg press myself as I think it’s actually better to do squats if you have the right equipment.

Thanks, I think it’s always good to check on your form. I actually already used the leg press machine today! Normally I prefer lunges, squats etc., but after my legs got a little tired and shaky with other exercises, I knew I would be able to (safely) get more out of them with the support of the machine.

Nice post, i think that squats are much better than leg press. They are more effective.
