Oprah had a great show today about men and women who have lost tremendous amounts of weight without surgery. Many of them weighed over 300 pounds and had several bad habits. One woman told how she ordered a 3-tiered wedding cake and ate the entire thing in 2 days! Other common habits they shared included:
- Drinking a lot of soda
- Binge eating late at night
- Overall major sugar addictions
- Lack of exercise
- Eating way too much fast food
It was very interesting to hear each person’s story behind their decision to lose weight. Each person had their own wake-up call and used various methods to shed the pounds. The most common methods included:
- Cutting out or cutting back on refined carbohydrates
- Cutting out junk food
- Starting an exercise program
- Strength training
- Eating smaller meals 5 – 6 times per day

Looking at their before and after pictures is inspiring, but what I took away from the show was that everyone discovered something that worked for them. One woman even worked out in a cemetery for 7 months. The point is, you have to start somewhere. There is nothing wrong with baby steps. If all you can do is walk, then walk until you can jog, then once you can jog, work up to running, etc.
As the new year approaches, many people will be starting a new journey to find fitness. These individuals prove that with hard work and dedication, fitness can be found.
