Lower Back Exercise with Stability Ball

by Eartha

Cardio: 2 mile run (treadmill), 20 minutes elliptical
Strength Training: none today

I went to the gym twice today, running for two miles this morning and then going again tonight with Heather as an exercise buddy. Today she showed me a cool lower back exercise that her personal trainer taught her. All it requires is a stability ball and a wall. You lie down on the stability ball on your stomach and rest your feet up against a wall for support. Then you cross your arms and raise up half-way feeling the tension in your lower back. Return to the starting position and raise up again half-way. Do this for about 15 reps and 3 sets. It's sort of like doing a reverse sit-up except for your lower back.

It felt really good working out my lower back because I hardly ever do and I think by doing so, it may relieve some of the stress I place on it when I sit improperly. Having a stability ball at home is nice because I can do this exercise anytime. One tip though: don't do this exercise after chugging a bunch of water. It makes it uncomfortable when you are lying on the stability ball.
