I woke up at 9 am to listen to Jillian Michaels radio show on KFI640. It was great and I enjoyed it very much. The bulk of her topic today was about calories. She says that in order to lose weight, you have to count calories. Most people don’t want to count calories but I agree with her in that it isn’t that hard to do. Once you look up the calories for specific foods, you’ll tend to remember them, and you’ll be better able to control your portion sizes.

She also touched on BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and how important it is to know it to understand how you burn calories. There was a ton of other useful information but one myth that she talked about was the one about working out on an empty stomach. I’ve heard this on more than one occassion with the premise being, if you work out on an empty stomach, your body will burn more fat. She says it’s untrue and that you need to eat at least an hour before a workout so that you body has the fuel it needs to perform. She gave many more reasons to why but I can’t remember them all.

Overall, she is very knowledgeable and has a fun personality. I wasn’t bored at all during the 2 hour show. It’s all about staying informed and learning about fitness everyday. The more information we have, the better off we are in maintaining good physical fitness.

Today I did:

Cardio: 2.2 mile run

Strength Training: 30 push-ups (modified),  quadricep machine (3 sets, 15 reps), calf machine (3 sets, 15 reps), hamstring machine (3 sets, 15 reps)
