How Do You Detox Your Body?
We are always learning ways to take care of the outside of our body but how do we take care of the inside? You may have heard of detoxifying your body, and while this often isn’t a necessity, many people feel it is an important part of overall health and well being.
What is a detox?
Our bodies are constantly detoxing naturally from the toxic wastes that accumulate in our bodies from the junk we eat, polluted air, to cigarette smoke. Our bodies neutralize the toxins and they eliminate through our bodies in the form of urine or stool.
What are detox diets?
Detox diets are diet programs that help bodies to eliminate toxic wastes. There are various types of detox diets on the market and some target specific areas of the body such as the colon or liver. Many of the diets consist of high fiber foods such as green vegetables and fruits. Some detox diets have specific guidelines of which foods to eat and which to combine for greater benefits.
Are there any precautions?
While detox diets promote better health, it is always a good idea to consult with your doctor before beginning a detox diet. There may be specific situations where a detox diet could do more harm than good. If you’re pregnant or have certain diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, low immunity, among many others — a detox may cause problems. Detox diets are also not recommended for children. Some side effects of detoxing include headaches, diarrhea, or constipation.
What are the benefits of detox?
There are several benefits to include the following:
- Weight loss
- Improved digestion
- Increased energy
- Improved immune system
- Clear skin
If you choose to perform a detox diet, you should definitely use it as a stepping stone to a healthier lifestyle. Incoporating more fruits, veggies, and fiber into your lifestyle will be a lasting benefit.

Another excellent and informative post!
I’ve tried a couple of detox diets and as you suggested, used it to help reset my system and get on the right path of eating healthy foods.
I not only experienced the benefits you list in your post, but my taste returned. After a detox, healthy foods tasted good to me and the unhealthy foods weren’t as tasty so it’s easier to stick close to a healthier diet.
I’m curious to find the differences (if any) between a cleanse and a detox. Anyone know?
