Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories in order to maintain itself. Learning ways to increase metabolism naturally can help with weight loss goals as well as maintaining your ideal weight. There are several ways to give your metabolism a boost.
- Eat breakfast - Skipping breakfast causes your body to think it is starving, thus slowing your metabolism to conserve energy until that next meal. Eating breakfast jump-starts your metabolism and starts burning calories.
- Exercise - Use aerobic activity to burn calories in the short term and strength training to burn calories in the long term. Exercise in general causes an increase in metabolism while performing the activity.
- Eat more frequently - Eating 5 - 6 smaller meals per day has been said to boost metabolism throughout the day. That is because your body isn’t in starvation mode and holding on to calories. Eating more frequently can be difficult but isn’t impossible with some planning.
- Strength training - Muscles burn more calories than fat even while you’re resting. That means the more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn just to maintain itself. It has also been said that strength training increases metabolism long after you’re done exercising.
While I love cardiovascular exercise, I am really interested in learning more about strength training. Mainly because I like the idea of building more muscle which burns more calories! Not only that, but I like the physique of strength trainers.
