Flabby Arms – Exercises to Get Rid of Flabby Arms

Healthcare worker uses calipers to test body fat on arm of a middle-age male.Measuring body fat percentage is an easy method of discovering correct body weight and composition. Beneath the skin is a layer of subcutaneous fat, and the percentage of total body fat can be measured by taking the skinfold at selected points on the body with a pair of calipers. The Yuhasz Technique uses six sites. The skin is pinched at 6 key areas on the body including the triceps, abdomen and thighs. Then you measure the fold you have pinched, and calculate how big it should be relative to your body size.

Fat can be stored by the body in many locations. For men, fat is commonly stored in the stomach but women store fat in their hips, thighs, and buttocks. Flabby arms can develop in both men and women. The good news is, there are ways to tone them up, but there are some things you need to know before you get into the exercise part of things.

You can't spot reduce the back of your arms. I've mentioned this before in articles I've written about losing belly fat. There is no such thing as spot reduction. Working specific muscles will not drop the fat around that area.

Reduce your body fat. You will need to reduce your body fat percentage in order to remove flab not only from your arms, but from everywhere else you are experiencing it. Once you are lean enough, you can workout the muscles in your arms (in this case, your triceps) to make them tight and toned.

Types of Flabby Arm Exercises

The muscles that will need to be developed are your triceps. There are some cool tricep exercises that you can perform. Some you do at the gym but you can still get a good tricep workout at home as well.

  • Push ups - these can definitely be done at home and are great for toning up the back up the arms. If you're out of shape, you can even do them on your knees.
  • Tricep dips - you can also do these at home. You can use your own body weight or lean your hands on some type of ledge like the seat of a chair.
  • Dumbbell exercise - you'll only need one dumbbell which you hold with both hands behind your head. Focus on your tricep muscles with each repetition by lifting the dumbbell up and down.
  • Tricep rope pull-down - you'll need to do this at a gym. You can usually find the rope attachment near the arm machines. You grip the rope with both hands with your arms close to your sides. As you pull the rope downward, you pull your hands away from each other. This is one of my favorite tricep exercises and you really feel the burn.

There are more tricep exercises that you can perform but the above should get you well on your way to tightening up the back of your arms.

Good post. The only other exercise I would add would be staggered push-ups they really hit the arms.
