Typically choosing brown food items is considered a healthier choice. This isn’t the case with sugar. It is a common myth that brown sugar is better than white sugar. The only difference between the two is that brown sugar is just white sugar that was colored with molasses.
Cutting back on the sugar no matter what color it is will benefit you in the long run. The list of why sugar is damaging to our bodies is long. Here are some reasons sugar should be reduced or avoided in general:
- Can lead to tooth decay
- Contributes to weight gain
- Can contribute to osteoporosis
- Raises insulin level
- Can increase blood pressure
- Effects mood
The list goes on and on. Just do a quick search on the dangers of sugar and you will probably want to begin cutting back right away. I still have a problem with sugar consumption and reading up on the dangers is a good reminder of why it’s important to try and eliminate it from my diet.
