Getting "pain" and "burn" confused is the reason why I've injured myself in the past from ignoring my body and persisting in a workout.

I'm gonna remember that there's a difference between pain and burn. Getting the 2 confused is the reason why I've injured myself in the past from ignoring my body and persisting in a workout. I'm gonna tell my cousin who just got his doctorate in physical therapy from Georgia State. He'll love this.

I've got a suggestion regarding the motivation to warm up and/or cool down. If stretching is part of your routine, and you've got an mp3 player, check out Stretch Secretary. The site is free and doesn't require any sort of registration. You just enter your routine and download an mp3 that talks you through your stretches. That way you can let your mind wander without worrying about counting.

Hi Tyler,
I think that "over" training is exactly that...over the top. The tricky part is figuring out how much is too little, too much or just enough. Partly this depends on your goal. If you want to run marathons you can't run a mile every other day and expect that to be enough.

That said, your workout seems pretty well rounded. Keeping the intense exercise at about 45 mins is a great idea. That way you don't put your body into a catabolic state (i.e. when your body breaks down protein as fuel).

To use the blanket statement "more than 4 days is a waste of time" doesn't really make too much sense to me. There's too many variables involved. It depends on intensity, exercise, mode, presence of injury, tendency toward injury and many other things. Generally, the American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise at least 5 days/wk.

You seem to be doing great. Keep it going but make sure you listen to your body and clear things with your doc!

How do you feel about over training? I try to work out about 6 days a week, but break it down with different muscle groups and cardio workouts. I never work the same muscle twice and I usually don't work out for more then 45 minutes.

Still others have said that anything more then 4 days a week is a waste of time.

What are your thoughts?
