There are plenty of people out there that dislike exercise because they don't feel it is fun to do. Since it isn't viewed as something fun to do, it is difficult to make time for it. The solution for people like this is to put the fun into exercise, that way it doesn't feel like you're working out at all. There are plenty of ways to do this and some methods will cost money and others will not.

However, if you add in a little of both (paid and free) activities, you could be exercising 5 to 6 days a week and not even feel like it. Below are some ideas to fill your calendar with fun things to do that also keep you working out on a regular basis.

1. Use a calendar: I like to use Google calendar because it's web based and I can access it easily. Plus it can send out email reminders of upcoming appointments. Whichever calendar you choose, the goal is to fill it with as many fitness activities as you can for the entire month.

2. Make a list: Are there things you have always wanted to try but never get around to? Make a list of activities that will get you physically active. Indoor rock climbing, martial arts classes, dancing, boxing classes, zumba, etc.

3. Sign up: Decide which classes or activities you like most. Find out what you can afford and search for free and low-cost sources as well. When you find what you like, schedule some classes. Now you can start filling in your calendar with fun stuff.

4. Map out trails: If you like to run, walk, or even ride a bike, map out some trails that you can use. You can find trails in your area for biking and/or walking or running. Add them to your calendar.

5. Exercise for a cause: There are plenty of causes that you can participate in by doing 3k's, 5k's, etc. You can walk or run. Find some in your area that you can do and plug them into your schedule.

6. Contests: Local gyms and fitness groups often hold competitions that you can train for. Stay on the lookout and find what you like. You never know, you could be winning trophies too!

Continue to be on the lookout for activities that will keep you moving. Your calendar can stay consistently full and have you doing fun things that won't feel like exercise at all. If you never thought of yourself as an active person, this is a great way to start and to meet other active people to keep you motivated.

Do you stay active? What are some of your tips?

I train 6 times a week, I have a calendar with all my goals at the end of every week. It works really well and I put on pump up songs like “Rock superstar” and more!

I have two high intensity and two low intensity workouts per week.

Having a goal is very important. Competitions help a lot. it’s a great motivational factor. Everyone wants to show his best performance :)

I’m with Fabby on this one… music really helps! Another tip is to keep a training diary so you can see yourself progressing. The visible, physical changes that exericse bring are slow, but seeing you’ve run and extra five minutes or lifted an extra few kgs will keep you motivated.

Undeniable, we need to know how to motivate ourselves sometimes to keep our fitness plan on track as planned before. Some people may over train, and some people may too lazy and keep giving themselves excuse to escape from their fitness plan.

I find having an achievable goal is key. Keeping a training log and recording what I eat also ensures I stay on track. It takes a long time to see gains, but a matter of weeks to slip back into old ways.

I’ve noticed that having it written out really helps. Also, actually dedicating a certain day and time to working out will really help your motivation.

As a personal trainer, I have to be a living testimony to my clients, so that’s more of a kick in the butt for me to get out and do what I’m supposed to when it comes to exercise!

Also, having a workout partner or a personal trainer in general will definitely help you hold yourself accountable for your workouts. Keeping a food journal and writing EVERYTHING you eat also does wonders. There’s just something about writing it down.

I think setting REALISTIC goals are the way to go! Choosing something that will keep you motivated (and not burnt out is huge)! I also recommend using some of these tips to keep up with your nutrition plan as well!!

Write down your daily calories
Choose a specific caloric range that will get you to your weight loss goal safely
Identify supporters that will help you stay on track

Combining consistent exercise with good nutrition is really the way to go!!

Nice post. I definitely think making it fun and having some kind of schedule is a GREAT way to stay in shape.

For example I LOVE playing Ultimate Frisbee, and it wears me out more than anything else I do, so I win on both counts :-p

I like your tips. The hardest part is just to get started every day. Once you get started you have done the hardest part of exercising!

I like some of the previous comments. As a fitness manager, I feel that support is the biggest help towards your goal. Work out with friends and family. On those days you feel like you dont want to train, your partner(s) will be there to get you into the gym. They can act like your own mini personal trainer. I wish I had a personal trainer…and I am one!

I use music as motivation. Specially RnB and Trance. :) A good way to stay fit. :)

I agree with fabby having some decent music really helps. If it dont then turn it up. another great way to keep motivated is taking pictures every 4 weeks or so really gets you motivated when you start to see the differences in yourself.

So motivation is found in good music, writing down everything you eat and keeping a workout diary.

What about having a picture of someone who happens to have the body you really want?

This is a real informative and educational for site for people who wish to get fit but don`t know how to start. I think this tips will help a lot of people to really get started as easy as can imagine.

The most challenging part is the beginning and once you`re able to start, I tell you the sky will be your limit in fitness.

I think 5 and 6 are huge. My diet and workout routine is terrible when I don’t have something motivating me. A little competition goes a long way for most people.

i do like the online idea of the calender as you say it makes it easy to access. Also i find if im monitored while trying to get fit, helps you track your progress and it shows your getting somewhere

Loud music is a great motivation for me. Also having a picture of me now on view, (not great if you live with other people though!) or thinking about what it is your trying to get fit for, ie a holiday.
These are the things that mainly motivate me to exercise. Or having a gym buddy, someone that you go to the gym with, then you wont want to let them down, or if your competitive, dont want them to think youre giving up before them!!

Tips are very innovative. Though many people know that exercises are must for physical as well as mental fitness, due to laziness they skip exercises.
