Exercise Little Effect on Childhood Obesity

I awoke to several news articles today describing a recent study of overweight children who lost little weight with an increase in exercise. The articles stated that if anything, the increase in exercise will lay the foundation to long-term exercise habits in their future. I think it's obvious why there was little weight loss. What are the kids doing once they get home? Chances are, they are probably slumped on the couch watching tv or playing video games.

Parents also have to monitor what their children are eating throughout the day. You can't watch them 24/7 but at least when they are at home, don't supply them with junk food. It's probably a good idea to have them exercising instead of watching television for hours on end. Even as an adult, I do not lose weight when I have been eating poorly. It's just common sense.

Childhood obesity can be fought if parents are willing to teach their children about better eating habits and physical fitness.
