Today after my workout, I stopped by the supermarket to pick up dinner and snacks. I spent a majority of my time in the produce section and stopped in the aisles for items like bread and tuna. I started to take notice of how much produce I was placing in my basket and how colorful everything was. I picked up avocados, spinach, apples, oranges, bananas, tomatoes, and collard greens. Normally, my basket would consist of some type of meat, pasta, and brownie mix for dessert.
Noticing all of the colors reminded me of the 5 a Day web site and how they emphasize the importance of eating your colors.
Eating 5 or more servings of colorful fruits and vegetables a day is part of an important plan for healthier living. That’s because deeply hued fruits and vegetables provide the wide range of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals your body needs to maintain good health and energy levels, protect against the effects of aging, and reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.*
I think out of all the colors I eat green, orange, and red the most.
