HBO has put together an awesome documentary series titled "De La Hoya Mayweather 24/7." A series like this is any boxing lovers dream, especially since it involves two of the world's top junior middleweight fighters - Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather. The series is a lead up to the championship fight on May 5th.
Each episode dives into the behind the scenes action in each of the fighters lives. You get a glimpse of their private lives as well as how they train for the upcoming fight. I think this in-depth look is definitely increasing the excitement for the fight.
I particularly like seeing how each of the fighters train. Boxer's have one of the best workouts of any sport. Training includes the areas of strength, agility, speed, stamina, and power. You are using your entire body to condition your cardiovascular system, reduce body fat, as well as build lean muscle.
Both fighters have intense training schedules. While De La Hoya sticks to a more routine schedule, Mayweather can be found in a local gym at 1 a.m. Each fighter is in excellent condition and you can tell they don't take their workouts lightly.
What I love about a boxing workout is that you utilize a lot of your own bodyweight. Push-ups and sit-ups are standard as well as building stamina with a lot of running. I plan on writing a more in depth post about a boxer's workout in the near future.
