Changing To A Raw Food Diet

Have you thought about going raw? Raw food diets does not mean eating sushi or steak tartare. A raw food diet consists of eating only plant based foods (fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouts, sea vegetables) and not cooking or heating foods above 116 degrees. Some hardcore raw foodists don’t heat their foods at all. I picture a raw food diet as the ultimate in natural eating. I know I could do it but I am not at a point in my life to go totally raw. I think I am leaning more towards vegetarian than completely raw.

A raw food diet has many benefits, however, it is important to know a lot about this diet so that you are still receiving the proper nutrients. There have been statements of healing various conditions on this type of diet. The reason being that eating more natural foods helps to clean out the toxins in the body.

Nutrition science is fast gaining the reputation of being a healing and preventive device. Dr Nand Kishore Sharma, a naturopath in New Delhi, India, feels that most diseases are caused by bad food habits. “Unnatural food, which includes any form of food not found in nature, generates toxins that gradually poison the body,” he says. From his ‘Fireless Kitchen’, Dr Sharma gives patients regenerative or natural food for degenerative diseases. This, he claims, has cured many. “I have even seen people grow new teeth and hair at 60 and 70 years of age,” he says.

I’m a firm believer in “you are what you eat.” While I did enjoy a filet mignon for dinner tonight, I did have a small inkling of guilt as I had devoted myself to not eating meat this entire week. It was pure temptation as I went out with friends for dinner - however, I take sole responsibility for caving in. I’ve been a meat eater my entire life so it was easy to give in. I have been seriously considering cutting back on meat considerably. More so than I have done in the past.

It is easy for me to believe in the concept of healing with food. After all, eating junk is what led to my weight gain over the years so eating better obviously has a positive effect. I want to enjoy a healthier lifestyle and accelerate my weight loss by changing my diet. While I am not going raw anytime soon, I am looking forward to being more of a vegetarian.
