Maybe you've overheard this conversation at the gym -- a slightly ripped guy and a skinny newbie begin talking, and the one with more muscles starts offering his insight. He drinks such-and-such brand of muscle building supplement. He does this many reps, with this much weight.

That's all useful info for the guy just starting out at the gym, but how much should he take at face value? Information freely offered from non-reputed sources is commonly known as "broscience" (initials: BS). Largely based on personal experience, these recommendations may have worked for one person, but might be ineffective or even harmful to another. And what was once solely a locker room phenomenon has gone viral, thanks to online forums and the free dissemination of this "information."

Bodyweight exercises have become the "new fad" in the fitness industry. With programs like P90X and Insanity selling like hot cakes, it’s easy to see why people are interested in this ancient form of bodybuilding.

These programs, along with many others, demonstrate the fact that you don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment to get a ripped body. There really is no excuse anymore. You can get in shape however you like with the proper knowledge. Just look at Hershel Walker.

Training Schedule

As gyms seem to be popping up in every town all offering a vast range of facilities there is scope for anyone to get fit, have fun and achieve goals. These can be done with the aid of easy to follow training schedules. For example, a typical Birmingham gym runs 35 different weekly exercise classes!

A proper training schedule results in better body composition, heightened athletic performance and better general well-being. A proper exercise schedule should target the needs of the individual, encouraging adherence and motivation. Regular monitoring and assessment in needed to measure the continual progress that is being made towards the desired goals.

Most of us are used to lifting dumbbells, barbells, and even a medicine ball once in awhile. What about flipping tires, slosh pipe training, or tossing a sandbag around? Using these types of objects for training is not only fun but it can be very beneficial to the body.
