It's no secret that many new year fitness resolutions are abandoned around March or April (sometimes sooner.) While it is unfortunate that some people don't develop the fitness habit, it can be a blessing for those who are serious about fitness and need some gym equipment to get started.
Treadmills, free weights, benches, and other equipment to create a nice home gym can be very expensive. While you don't need most gym equipment, it is still nice to have a home gym. A home gym can save money because you will no longer need a gym membership. You can work out at home no matter what the weather is like outside and you can work out anytime that fits your schedule.
Getting Used Gym Equipment for Cheap
Thanks to so many new years resolutions, a lot of new equipment may have been purchased by people excited about exercising again. However, a lot of these same people often give up and leave that equipment to collect dust. Eventually, they will realize that same equipment is taking up space in their home and they will want to recoup some of the money they've invested.
Two Great Places for Gym Equipment
- Craigslist
- Play it Again Sports (www.playitagainsports.com)
Chances are you will find a bulk of everything you want on Craigslist. Just from a quick search, I've found gems for:
- Treadmill (like new) - $300
- Nordictrack CX1055 Elliptical - $400
- Olympic weight set - $169
- Olympic weight bench (with weights) - $200
- Dumbbells (various sizes) - $17
- Kettlebells 4lb 8lb 12lb 16lb - $45
Play it Again Sports sells used fitness equipment and may not be as cheap as Craigslist, but still worth checking out if you have one in your city.

I have forever left the local gym for my home gym – because it contains everything that I want seeing as I hand picked all the equipment based on what I like to use and what is effective for me. And it cost me waaaay less than gym membership, or even a traditional home gym set. So far all I need is my Needak rebounder, my stability ball, my multi system pull up bars and a few little extras like my yoga mat, some dumbells and an ab wheel. So simple yet so effective and the rebounder (mini trampoline incase your wondering what that is) cuts away the need for a treadmill and saves me alot of space that I don’t have in my apartment. Perfect!
