I received an advanced hard copy of Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle: Secrets of the Leanest People in the World by author and fitness professional, Tom Venuto. The book’s release date is sometime in December 2013. I am familiar with both the author and the book. The book has been sold as an ebook for many years now on Tom’s web site Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle. Tom is one of the pioneers of selling fitness books as downloadable ebooks online. Tons of people have purchased it over the years and many have become part of the Burn the Fat online community.
I had never really taken the time to read the book until now. It is easy to pass up fitness books because many seem to repeat the same information. I didn’t have a strong interest in Tom’s book in particular because I had no strong interest in bodybuilding. However, I was hooked after I began reading the first chapter. It isn’t a book based solely on bodybuilding. It is a very informative health and fitness book that teaches you how to use what bodybuilders have used for years to stay lean. Now I read a little of the book before bed each night and I’m learning a lot!
Who is Tom Venuto?
Tom is a certified personal trainer and fitness writer. He has been in the fitness industry since the early 90’s. He has written two books and has written articles for well known magazines such as Muscle and Fitness and Men’s Health. Tom is also a natural bodybuilder with a mission to help millions of people of all ages get healthy, lean, fit, and strong. He promotes an all natural (drug free) approach to muscle training as well as a natural, whole food approach to nutrition.
Why Follow the Advice of a Bodybuilder Anyway?
Bodybuilders have been and continue to be admired by people regardless of their fitness goals. You cannot look at a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime and not be amazed at his physique. Bodybuilders come in all shapes and sizes. Some people are not muscle training in order to be Mr. or Ms. Olympia.
I just recently watched two episodes of champion bodybuilder Jay Cutler’s Living Large reality series on YouTube. It is no wonder he has won major competitions with his physique. He works out hard. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is another example of a huge physique.
You may not want to have muscles that large. It takes a lot of work to achieve large muscle mass gains. Even more so for women because we do not have high levels of testosterone like men do. Women do not have to worry about the bulky look of competitive bodybuilders. It won’t happen naturally without the help of enhancement drugs.
How Do You Get a Lean Body? Secrets of the Lean
What may interest you is how they stay so lean. When you have a lower body fat percentage, your muscles will show. Achieving a healthy (lower) percentage of body fat has been a struggle for many. Tom Venuto teaches you how to eat and train so that you maintain a healthy weight – even to the point of being able to “dial it in” when you want to lean up for a special event like a wedding or going on vacation. Unlike other books on fitness that I have come across, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle goes into detail about how the body works when given the proper nutrition and exercise.
Tom writes on a personal level which makes all of the science easy to understand. It makes me feel like, yes, I can take what you’re saying and truly apply it to my life.
Fitness Advice is Great But How Do I Make It Work for Me?
Fitness books are not always fun to read. Even if you skip to the parts that explain how to do what the author is teaching, you can still lose motivation to follow through. What impressed me a lot is the fact that Tom includes an entire section about mentality. Why is this important? Because if your attitude and mindset isn’t right, no advice from anyone is going to help you get results.
I have achieved many personal successes due to mental focus and a positive attitude. Applying the same tactics to the weaker areas of your life can be difficult. I have yet to get to the level of fitness that I desire and it is because I have yet to get my mind in the right state to do so.
I am excited to read this chapter. Tom has said that portion of the book has become a favorite for many.
I am in the early stages of the book so I plan on writing on the topics within it as I go along. I have been sent free copies of books to review in the past and this is one that has captured my interest. That hasn’t happened in a long time. It makes me wish I had taken the time to purchase it years ago from the web site.
