Body Wraps for Weight Loss

by Eartha

Anything that promises quick weight loss should sound off warning alarms. I had not given much thought to body wraps so I did some quick research to see what all the hype is about. Many body wrap companies market themselves as providing fast weight loss and reduction of inches from your body. Most body wrapping businesses are also spas that provide other cosmetic services from face masks to tanning.

How Body Wraps Work

Measurements are taken from various areas of your body. The next step usually involves being covered with some type of mixture (could be mineral salt, oil, mud, etc.) and then being wrapped in cotton bandages (basically from head to toe) that may or may not have been soaked in some type of herbal solution.

The next step is to begin the sweating process which can be achieved through methods such as light movement or lying under a thermal blanket. After the process is completed, the wrap is removed and measurements are taken again to check how many inches have been lost.

Benefits of Body Wraps

  • Tightens and firms skin
  • Lose inches (typically 6 or more)
  • Eliminates toxins
  • Reduce appearance of cellulite

All body wrapping companies vary in their process. Don't fall for the "weight loss" gimmick that some may use to market themselves. You don't lose fat or have long term weight loss by performing a body wrap. For the most part, you are losing water weight during the process. The loss of inches are purely for cosmetic purposes and are commonly used to "fit into that dress" or those jeans that don't quite fit anymore. Not all body wrapping services dehydrate you so if you plan to try it out, do your research and get the facts.

Always keep in mind that there are no quick fixes to losing weight. You have to put in the effort through proper diet and exercise.

As a owner of Phoenix Women’s Fitness and Speciale Spa I truly appreciate your posting. I am constantly called about our body wraps and how they just want to lose 10-20 lbs If it were only so easy my ladies would not be working out daily, instead they would do body wraps.

When I receive a call requesting a body wrap I first let them know that we DO NOT offer body wraps for inch and/or weight loss but for therapeutic benefits only. I know I may lose a lot of business this way; however, I would rather be upfront with my client then give them a lot of hype. I also keep in mind I would like them to return and to give a favorable referral not one that says to people our process does not work.

Our’s is a wrap-less body wrap utilizing the seaweed gel that is actually what assist in the removal of toxins and softening and hydrating the skin. Their bodies are given a good body brushing for stimulation and/or a massage if they have requested it. Then the seaweed gel is painted on the body with plastic wrap only being laid in places to keep the gel in place not for sweating. We are then able to bring their body temperature up to over 100 degrees in just minutes utilizing the Steamy Wonder that is lower down over their body. Their head and face remain out of the unit so they can receive a relaxing scalp/head and shoulder massage for up to 20 minutes, then they are cooled slowly. The seaweed gel is then removed with warm towels and the service last about 1 hr. The ladies love it since it is non-constrictive, relaxing and therapeutic all in one treatment. To really bring benefit many will opt to have a sugar and/or salt full body scrub with essential oils to remove all of the dead skin cells allowing for the seaweed gel to penetrate even better.

Remember there is no such thing as a quick fix unless you are looking for quick inch loss before going to a high school reunion or wedding so you can fit nicely in that perfect dress, so save your money. Also keep in mind body wraps were created to work along with your weight loss/management so usually a series is suggested to assist much like a supplement works and we all know that not all supplements work for all people that is why there are so many available.

So keep up your fitness, eat healthy and let weight loss be the bi-product not the main focus, since your body may not have the same time table as your brain. You will be less likely to give up so easy. Here is to lost inches the lasting and right way.

I’d like to know what happens after you lose the inches from getting a wrap. Is this a permanent inch loss or a temporary effect and how long will the results last?
