Body weight resistance exercises are some of my favorite exercises to perform. There are some cool advantages to using your own body weight.
Advantages of Body Weight Resistance
- You can exercise almost anywhere
- Very inexpensive (most you’ll need are dumbbells)
- Great for strength training
- Improves core strength, balance, coordination, flexibility
Types of Body Weight Exercises
- Push-ups
- Pull-ups
- Crunches (or sit-ups)
- Squats
- Lunges
- Jump rope
- Flutter kicks
- Jumping jacks
- Leg lifts
- Neck lifts
Additional Equipment
Depending on the other equipment you purchase depends on how much more resistance you can add and the exercises you can perform. Some equipment you can add are:
- Resistance bands
- Medicine ball
- Jump rope
- Pull-up bar
- Stability ball
Utilizing your own body weight can eliminate the need for expensive gym memberships. I also feel that it is a true sign of being fit. Performing a regular push-up can be a major struggle for out of shape individuals. If you can work yourself up to performing a set of push-ups with no problem, I think it says a lot about your fitness level.
