A new year has arrived and with each new year, the promise to begin working out and eating right tops the list of resolutions. Many people who make this promise to themselves may be exercising for the first time in years. The most common thing to do is to join a gym as a way to motivate yourself or force yourself to work out.

I understand what it is like to join a gym and then never go. I wasted a whole year's membership many years ago. Looking back, I always feel bad because it was paid for as a gift. If you are not ready to join a gym, don't feel like you have to because of a new resolution. Start off slowly and learn to enjoy exercise again. You can always sign up when you feel ready.

If you are intimidated by the thought of joining a gym right away, want to get back into exercise slowly before committing to a gym membership, or simply want to exercise at home, you can do so with very little equipment.

Note: If you haven't exercised in a very long time, it would be wise to seek medical advice before starting any new exercise routine.

Below is a quick video which caters towards beginners. The only equipment you will need to start out with are dumbbells and a stability ball.

The thing I like most about working out at home is the time you save. Just the act of getting to and from the gym can take an hour.

Good advise. Make sure to stretch and pace yourself at the beginning, get plenty of rest.
